WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY - 18TH TO 25TH JANUARY 2025

The annual week of prayer for Christian unity has added significance this year for two reasons. First, because of the Jubilee Year and secondly because 2025 marks the 17th centenary of the Council of Nicaea that proclaimed Christ to be 'consubstantial' with the Father in 325 AD. This commemoration provides an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the common faith of all Christians expressed in the Nicene Creed.

For this year, the prayers and reflections for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity were prepared by the brothers and sisters of the monastic community of Bose in northern Italy. The theme of this years week of prayer for Christian unity comes from the Gospel of John and is centered on the gift of faith: 'Do you Believe This?' (John 11:26) - the question Jesus addresses to Martha and indeed to all of us.

Here in the diocese of Ferns, an ecumenical prayer service will take place in the Methodist Church in Gorey this Sunday 19th January at 7pm. All are welcome. the homilist will be Fr Chris Hayden from the diocese of Ferns and Spiritual Director of St Patrick's Seminary, Maynooth.
